Vanilla is the story of Ichiru Morio, a high school student who finds himself undeniably drawn to one of teachers. Saeki-sensei is uber-cool but cold and antisocial, with a penchant for dabbling with his male students. At first he thinks that Ichiru, a bit confused with his fascination, just wants sex, but soon seems to realize that the boy wants something more.
There's also a side story of Ichiru's classmate Kazuki, who used to sleep with Saeki-sensei, and his own search for love.
Yamakami-sensei's art style, though it takes a little getting used to, is genious. It's a simple line style that's a little messy, but her characters always have an intimacy around them, a little like Monchi Kaoru's in Imadokino Shishunki and Jajauma Narashi. While not overly graphic, the love scenes are sweet and tender. And since I'm partial to teacher-student stories, that just makes it all the better. (^_^)
